Which Heatilator model do I have? ›

The model and serial numbers are located on a “rating plate,” which is a metal plate that's usually permanently affixed to the fireplace, insert or stove. In gas fireplaces, the rating plate is found in the controls area.

If your model has a standing pilot light, it does not require house current at any time to operate; or if your appliance has our patented IPI or IPI+ System, which works on a battery back up of 2 "D" or 4 "AA" batteries (depending on the particular ignition system), it will work in event of a power outage.

The model number and serial number are printed on either a metal or plastic plate rating plate located in the bottom of most gas fireplaces. You may also find the model number on the front of the owner's manual on your original invoice.

You can usually find the brand and model of your gas fireplace under the appliance's lower louver if it is a direct vent model. Direct vent fireplaces bring outside air into the unit through the chimney and remove combustion byproducts the same way.

If your pilot is lit and the fireplace isn't igniting when you push the button or flip the switch, the igniter may be dirty or defective. Clear away any dirt or debris that may be in the way between the igniter and thermocouple or thermopile.

Check the thermocouple. The thermocouple can malfunction and become stuck in the “off” position, preventing the flame from lighting even if the pilot light is lit. Try replacing the thermocouple and see if this resolves the issue.

If your pilot light is on, it should be easy to see – your eyes will be drawn to the little flame. If you don't see a flame, your pilot light is out. If there is a flame, check the color. Pilot lights should always be blue.

Can you manually light a gas fireplace with electronic ignition? ›

Locate your fireplace's ignition switch—a red button near the control knob or a switch labeled “ignitor.” While you're holding down the control knob, click the ignition switch once every second until the pilot light is lit. This may take several attempts.

The batteries for fireplaces, stoves and inserts, do not have particularly long lives. The batteries need to be regularly exchanged with fresh ones. As a safety and customer convenience feature, when these batteries get weak, an audible 'beep' will be heard.

What you are looking for is a manufactures information plate. This Plate or Tag as it is sometimes called should be somewhere on any wood stove or fireplace manufactures after about 1980. This product tag should have the brand, model, and serial number imprinted on it, as well as clearance information.

A masonry fireplace will also have a brick chimney above the roofline. ​A prefab fireplace generally has a firebox made of cast refractory panels. Usually, some metal is visible in the space all around the firebox, and if you look up past the damper, you should see a round metal chimney.
