Each inmate is allowed 1 visit per week. The week starts on Saturday and ends on Friday. Visits are scheduled according to the inmate’s gender and the first letter of the inmate’s last name. Bail and Bondsman
To secure the release of an inmate from custody or jail while he awaits trial, the defendant must pledge money or property to the court as part of his guarantee that he will appear before the court at his trial. This is called bail. If the defendant does not keep his promise, he loses the money or property and he is labeled a fugitive.
A bondsman is an agent who posts bail for defendants that lack money to do it themselves. He will also serve as a surety – held liable by the court to make the entire payment if the defendant does not present himself at his trial. A bondsman typically charges a non-refundable fee equal to 10% of the bail amount.
Practicing commercial bail bonding is outlawed in Kentucky. Ky. Stat. § 431.510 (outlawing commercial bail bond industry); see Stephens v. Bonding Assoc. of Kentucky, 538 S.W.2d 580 (Ky 1976) (upholding statute). A warrant is necessary if a bondsman from out of state wants to apprehend a fugitive hiding out in Kentucky. Ky. Rev.
